About Me

My name is Jeffrey Torres and I am an 18 year-old freshman student attending the City College of New York. I am majoring in Sonic Arts with plans to become an audio engineer, as well as a part of the pre- health program in order to attend PT school. I grew up in Sunnyside, Queens, and was surrounded from people of every ethnicity imaginable, and despite our differences the one thing we found in common happened to be music and soccer. I was exposed to all types of music from the people around me, bachata, 90’s rap, R&B, Jazz, AfroBeats, among many others, and through that my passion for Music grew from being a listener to a creator. When we weren’t listening to music together, we would all lace up our soccer boots and find pickup games at the local park. Around my early teens I began to experience physical problems which rendered me unable to walk at times, forcing me to give up my passion for playing soccer. I had to regularly attend physical therapy throughout my teenage years, jumping from borough to borough in order to receive treatment. It was at this time that I truly dove into the musical world, and found that behind every of my favorite artists words were the carefully curated instrumentals that filled the background. I became immersed in the world that was producing, first beginning with Bandlab, I began to create instrumentals that resembled me and any nerdy interest I had at the time. Eventually I reached College, and when faced with what I wanted to pursue as a career, I reached my decision through a culmination of my passions and the experiences I went through. I needed a way to properly express my creativity in Music, with a need for helping people achieve their best version the same way my Physical Therapists did for me. Audio Engineering for me is a career in which I could create music the way I always have, yet collaborate with other artists and help their own music reach their true potential and vision. It allows me to venture into many industries, and gives me the freedom to explore areas I was unable to growing up. Entering PT school and working in the same facility that treated me: NYU, is a dream of mine ever since I finished treatment, and is my way of giving back to my community in a from of physical healing, the same community that gave me everything that defines me.
